How I lost 3 Telegram accounts in one week (and what I learned about outreach)

Two months ago I lost 3 Telegram accounts in 7 days. Here's what happened and what I learned.

It started innocently. I found a Telegram group where my target audience hangs out — CTOs and engineering managers. 200+ active members. Perfect, right?

I created 3 new accounts, joined the group, and started sending messages. First day: 20 messages. Second day: 30. Third day: 40.

By day 4, all three accounts were banned.

Here's where it gets embarrassing: I'm a developer who literally built a tool for Telegram outreach. And I still made every rookie mistake in the book.

What I Did Wrong

Mistake 1: No warmup. I created accounts and started messaging the same day. Telegram flagged me immediately. Fresh accounts have zero trust with Telegram's anti-spam system.

Mistake 2: Too many messages too fast. 20 messages on day 1 for a brand new account? That's like showing up to a party and talking to everyone in the first 5 minutes. People notice.

Mistake 3: Identical messages. I was sending basically the same message to everyone with minor tweaks. Telegram's spam detection picked up on this instantly.

Mistake 4: No profile setup. My accounts had no profile photo, empty bio, no name. Spam accounts look exactly like this.

What I Learned

After losing those accounts, I spent 2 weeks just reading about Telegram's anti-spam system. Here's what I found:

Week 1: Just join groups. Don't message anyone. Browse the feed. React to a few messages. Be a normal user.

Week 2: Start conversations in group chats (not DMs). Reply to other people's messages. Share useful links. Still don't DM anyone.

Week 3: Start DMing people you've already interacted with in groups. Max 5-10 messages per day.

Week 4: Gradually increase to 15-20 messages per day. Always personalize.

The key insight: Telegram doesn't ban accounts for sending messages. It bans accounts for acting like spammers. There's a difference.

The Result

After implementing proper warmup, I've been running 5 accounts for 3 months without a single ban. Response rate went from 2% to 18%. Meetings booked went from 0 to 12 per month.

Turns out, doing it right takes longer but works 10x better. Who knew?
