I tested 15 different Telegram message templates. Only 3 got replies above 20%
Tested15 Telegram message templates. Only3 got replies above 20%.
TL;DR: Tested 15 message templates across 500+ messages. 3 templates consistently got 20%+ response rates. Here they are (and why they work).
Everyone says "personalize your messages." But nobody tells you HOW. I tested 15 different approaches and tracked the data. Here's what actually works.
The Test Setup
500+ messages across 5 accounts over 4 weeks. Same target audience (CTOs in Telegram groups). Different message templates. Every message tracked.
The Winning Templates (20%+ Response Rate)
Template 1: The Question Opener
"Hey [name], quick question — are you using [tool] for [task]? We're evaluating it and would love your take."
Response rate: 34%
Why it works: People love giving their opinion. It's not a pitch — it's a genuine question. They reply because they want to help.
Template 2: The Shared Experience
"Hey [name], saw your comment about [problem] in [group]. We hit the same wall last quarter. Fixed it with [solution]. Want me to share the details?"
Response rate: 28%
Why it works: You're referencing something THEY said. It's personal, specific, and offers value without asking for anything.
Template 3: The Contrarian Take
"Hey [name], I saw you're using [tool]. Unpopular opinion: it's overrated for [use case]. We switched to [alternative] and cut costs 40%. Curious if you've seen the same."
Response rate: 22%
Why it works: Controversy sparks conversation. People want to defend their choices or learn about alternatives.
The Losing Templates (<5% Response Rate)
- "Hi, I'd love to connect" — 1.2%
- "We help businesses like yours grow" — 2.1%
- "I'm reaching out because..." — 2.8%
- "Would you be open to a quick call?" — 3.4%
- "I noticed you're in [industry]" — 4.2%
All of these share one thing: they're about YOU, not THEM. Nobody cares about your outreach. They care about their problems.
The Rules
- Start with them, not you. Reference something they said or did.
- Ask a question. People reply to questions. They ignore statements.
- Offer value first. "I can share how we solved X" > "Let me show you our product"
- Be specific. "Your comment about CI/CD in [group]" > "I saw your post"
- Keep it short. Under 50 words. Mobile users skim.
The Template That Got 0% Response Rate
"Dear [name], I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you because..." — 0%. Zero. Nobody replied. It reads like a spam email from2005.
Bottom Line
Stop guessing. Test your templates. Track the data. The difference between a 2% and 30% response rate is literally one sentence.
