Why I stopped using VK Ads (and switched to outreach)

Why I stopped using VK Ads and switched to outreach.

Three months ago I was spending $2,000/month on VK Ads. Today I spend $300/month on outreach and get better results. Here's why I switched.

VK Ads looks attractive on paper. Target by age, city, interests. Automated bidding. Analytics dashboard. But after 6 months of running campaigns, here's what I actually got:

VK Ads: The Reality

MetricOfficial PromiseMy Results
Cost per lead"From 50 rubles"340 rubles ($3.80)
Conversion to meeting"Up to 15%"2.1%
Lead quality"Targeted audience"60% tire-kickers
Monthly spend"Flexible budget"$2,000 (couldn't go lower without zero leads)
ROI"Positive from day 1"-34% after 6 months

Minus 34% ROI. I was literally paying people to ignore my ads.

Why VK Ads Failed for B2B

    • Wrong audience behavior. VK users are there to chat with friends, not buy B2B software. It's like advertising enterprise tools on Instagram.
    • Ad blindness. Russians see 50+ ads per day on VK. They've learned to scroll past everything.
    • Lead quality. Most leads were students, freelancers, or people just clicking out of curiosity. Not decision-makers.
    • No trust. Nobody trusts ads. But they do trust a person who gives useful advice in a group.

What I Do Now ($300/Month)

Organic outreach in VK groups. Not spam — genuine participation.

    • Joined 15 groups where my target audience hangs out
    • Post useful content 3x/week (industry insights, not salesy)
    • Comment on other people's posts
    • DM people who engage with my content

Cost breakdown:

    • 3 accounts (self-created): $0

    • 3 proxies: $54/month

    • Content creation: 5 hours/week at $0 (I do it myself)

    • Total: $54/month (plus my time)

The Lesson

VK Ads works for B2C (clothes, food, games). For B2B, organic outreach in groups is 10x better. People trust people, not ads.

If you're spending money on VK Ads for B2B, stop. Join groups, be helpful, build relationships. It takes longer but works infinitely better.
